Explore North Workshop: Northwoods Elopement | Weyerhauser, WI

Last month, I was fortunate enough to attend the Explore North Workshop hosted by Jen Dederich and April Zelenka with special guest photographer Emily Schmidt. While staying in a cabin on Two Bear Lake in the middle of nowhere really isn't my thing (I hate wood ticks!), it did make the most beautiful backdrop for our outdoor photo sessions. We spent our first morning together learning about the fundamentals of running a business (Jen), how to seek out pockets of light (Emily), and how to build our own unique brands (April). In the afternoon, we had the pleasure of photographing our stunning models Hunter and Nicole who were expertly stylized for a northwoods elopement session. Hair and makeup was provided by Lady Vamp Artistry and the gorgeous bouquet was from Blooms by Brandi.

You know how you have those moments that change your life? Well for me, this workshop was one of them. When I started my photography business, I had no purpose or sense of direction. I was so excited to get out there and shoot anything and everything that I totally neglected to narrow down my focus. You may have noticed over the past month that I have been quietly working hard to clean up my social media accounts and completely redesign my website, including the start of this blog! I've analyzed the costs of running a business, updated my pricing structure accordingly, and started solid marketing efforts for wedding photography. I'm so excited for the 2017 wedding season, because I am second shooting for a handful of the most talented wedding photographers Wisconsin has to offer and most importantly because I have met and booked wedding dates for some truly awesome couples! I can't wait to share more.
